Crave: Database

The following shows examples of how our custom database and programming skills can be your best friend when updating content live on YOUR Web site. For the sake of simplicity, we'll demonstrate first on a simple site, one created as a hobby site for some friends of Crave Studios, the RC Dogs! The second sample is more complex, taken from an upcoming Tennis Canada database system currently in development.

Read through the information presented here, click on the images to the left to see full-size versions of screen captures from actual sites, and understand how this marvel of Web interaction can be utilized to empower almost any kind of Web content, from simple photographs to email systems, from product listings to live voting and polls... Use your imagination, and challenge us!

Sample 1 - Editorial Management System
a. Create / Edit / Delete

Click on the image to the left and view the detailed sample of a news editorial story section. Using a form like this you can see how easy is can be to add a written story to your site, following the guidelines outlined by the designers, and have flexibility to add multiple photographs and other relevant content easily.

b. View the final sample

Once you've edited your story the way you want you can preview it online before it goes live (if desired). This sample image (click for a larger view) shows what the end user will see based on the information entered into the forms in the previous section. Photos or images are neatly placed inside the designed framework, and all content can be searched for larger database systems.

Sample 2 - Biography / Product Lists
a. List / Sort / Status

In this sample, we have a basic athlete biography database. Using an icon-driven list, you have options to add new players to the database, view existing bios as seen on the live site, delete bios from the system, and confirm photos attached to each player bio. There is also a field option in the edit system for "active" bios, for which players can be viewed or not on the live site.

b. Create / Edit / Delete

Similar to the editorial system detailed above, the athlete bio edit page allows for a lot of quality content manipulation and editing right on the page, without disrupting the end-user's content flow. Based on the content to be displayed, information can be entered in any number of ways, from simple text fields to expansive story/comment fields, and from pre-selected checkboxes or drop-down menus. This allows for greater consistency in data, which can enhance searching capabilities.

c. Browse your Biography / Product

The final product... Or in this case, biography. Here we see what the above sample edit form will create for the user experience. The display is simple, uncluttered, yet contains all the relevant information represented in the athlet's bio section. If some fields are left empty, those lines may not be printed if desired, making the output even simpler to read for more basic information. Also note that the "date" field has been used to calculate the exact age of the athlete in this case, based on a supplied birthday and the current date (the metric/imperial conversions are automatic as well).

Sample 3 - Dynamic Tracking Reports
Daily / Page Detail Summaries

The samples shown here are views from an installed tracking system used for Tennis Canada during the week of their big tournament here in Toronto during August, 2001 - the numbers have been altered for this demonstration.

The image on the left (click for larger) shows a weekly view of all the tracked pages - only a handful were tracked for this system - to get a good idea of traffic flow through the week leading up to the big weekend of the tournament. The other image shows a detail breakdown of one single day of the event and all the pages tracked.
